Practical Travel Korean: Requests, Transport, Meals and Shopping (한국 여행 요청 표현과 짧은 대화 교재)
Practise useful Korean requests for transport, restaurant orders and shopping through short original examples with explanations and respectful follow-up questions.
목적지 묻기, 식당 주문, 물건 확인처럼 자주 만나는 여행 상황을 짧은 요청과 응답으로 연습합니다. 실제 영업 방식이나 서비스 제공 여부는 현장에서 확인하세요.
1. Airport & Transit: Getting from Incheon to Downtown Seoul (공항 입국 및 대중교통 이동 회화)
Navigating Korea's public transit requires knowing key location nouns (역 station, 출구 exit, 갈아타다 transfer) and polite directional requests (-로 가 주세요 'please go to...', 어디에서 타요? 'where do I board?').
공항철도(AREX)나 지하철, 택시를 이용할 때는 목적지 이름 뒤에 '역(Station)', '번 출구(Exit number)', '호텔 앞(In front of the hotel)'을 정확히 붙여 말하는 것이 핵심입니다.
2. Dining Out: Seating, Ordering, Side Dishes & Dietary Requests (식당 입장·주문·반찬 리필 회화)
In Korean restaurants, you call staff politely with 저기요 (Excuse me over there) or 주문할게요 (I'd like to order). Counting people uses Native Korean numbers plus 명 (한 명, 두 명, 세 명), while counting menu portions uses Sino-Korean numbers plus 인분 (일 인분, 이 인분).
반찬이나 물을 더 요청할 때는 '이거 조금만 더 주세요(Please give me a little more of this)', 매운 음식을 조절할 때는 '안 맵게 해 주세요(Please make it not spicy)'라는 표현이 가장 널리 쓰입니다.
3. Café and Shopping Requests (카페와 쇼핑에서 필요한 요청)
Whether ordering an iced Americano (아이스 아메리카노 한 잔 테이크아웃이요), asking to try on clothes (이거 입어 봐도 돼요?), or requesting tax-free processing (택스 리펀드 되나요?), short polite -요 endings sound warm and natural.
길을 묻거나 도움을 요청할 때는 ‘실례합니다’로 말을 건네고 목적지 이름이나 지도를 보여 줄 수 있습니다. 안내를 받을 수 있는지는 상황에 따라 다르므로 누구나 언제든 도와줄 것이라고 단정하지 않습니다. 긴급 상황의 대응 절차를 대신하는 회화 안내는 아닙니다.

Worked Examples & Common Questions (예제 풀이와 자주 하는 질문)
A request and a response · 주문을 한 문장씩 이어 가기
Customer: 물 주세요. (Water, please.) Staff: 따뜻한 물로 드릴까요? (Would you like warm water?) Customer: 네, 감사합니다. (Yes, thank you.) Start with the item plus 주세요, then listen for a follow-up choice. A memorised order is not a complete conversation if you cannot recognise the reply.
처음에는 긴 문장보다 ‘물 주세요’처럼 요청 대상을 분명히 말해 보세요. 상대가 ‘따뜻한 물’이나 ‘찬물’ 중 선택을 묻는다면 필요한 쪽으로 답합니다. 정해 둔 대사를 계속 반복하기보다 질문의 핵심 단어를 확인하세요.
Less spicy is not ingredient-free · 요청의 범위 구분하기
덜 맵게 해 주세요 means please make it less spicy; it does not say that a particular ingredient is absent. If an ingredient matters, ask 이 음식에 땅콩이 들어가나요? (Does this dish contain peanuts?) and explain your requirement clearly. These are language examples, not a guarantee that a restaurant can meet a dietary need.
‘안 맵게’와 ‘알레르기 유발 재료가 없음’은 같은 뜻이 아닙니다. 음식의 조리 가능 여부와 재료는 별도로 확인해야 합니다. 한국관광공사의 식이 관련 안내처럼 필요한 표현을 미리 준비하는 방법도 참고하세요.
FAQ: 주세요 or -할게요? · 요청과 내 의사 표현
물 주세요 asks the listener to provide something. 카드로 계산할게요 announces your intention to pay by card. They are not interchangeable endings: 카드로 계산해 주세요 is a request for the staff to process card payment. Both may be appropriate, but decide who will do the action before choosing the sentence.
같은 결제 상황이라도 내가 할 일을 알리는지, 상대에게 처리를 부탁하는지에 따라 표현이 달라집니다. 교통에서도 목적지를 말하는 ‘서울역으로 가 주세요’와 환승 장소를 묻는 ‘어디에서 갈아타요?’를 구분해 보세요.
